FIXING SCRATCHES- There really isn`t any better way to fix a scratch then to pressure burnish the metal with a tool called a burnisher. This smooth metal tool is used to smooth the surface by applying intense pressure all over the surface to evenly push the affected metal back into itself. Very hard to do with low karat golds like 10k and even 14k white gold, especially if the rings have been heated up at any time for a sizing or repair. So it can be a time consuming fix and cost maybe $50 or more. ADVICE- I think it`s best to let your rings transform and even repair themselves with long term wear. If you keep repolishing them in any way they will just wear out sooner. TIME WILL TELL- There will be a time when the bottom of your ring will wear down a bit, some quicker than others, usually a man who works hard with his hands and never takes his rings off.
Two solutions and sometime both at the same time. 1-If the ring does wear thin, which mine never do because of the thickness of them, then you can have a new piece of metal soldered in and recarved. This is very time consuming and expensive but the ring is almost as good as new and usually lasts a life time at that point, which is a real good sign for the relationship and for my reputation as a Love Ring specialist. 2-Then the ring will need to be carved tomatch up after piece is applied, which if it is just worn down on the bottom we can re engrave the details to get it back to new, as long as there is lots of metal depth left, otherwise back to option one. COSTS-Approximately #1 could cost from $250- $1000 depending on the width and thickness and time put into the job in gold. Silver would start at $150-$300. SACRED JEWELRY-Most jewelers will not touch native carved jewelry and most people wont trust anyone else but the maker, which is easier thought than done with most native carvers, mainly because they can`t be found and you would be lucky to get it back if you gave it to them. I have done many of my own rings and a few of other artists too, mostly repairs on thin rings or broken bracelets. I can give you a free estimate usually by looking at a photo or description. All is not hopeless with damaged native jewelry so give me a call or drop me an e-mail. Thanks for reading, hope this was helpful
